My name is Muhammad Patel. I am based in Preston, and I build and look after technology for businesses, mosques and households — websites and business systems, prayer-time automation, audio and video, servers, smart homes, and the everyday repairs in between.
I study IT at Preston College, and I teach at a local mosque most weekday evenings from five until seven, covering classes and helping with admin.
How I got into this
It started with volunteering. I did the IT and the audio at my local mosques — microphones that fed back, screens nobody could update, heating that was either on all day or forgotten entirely. Fixing those properly meant learning how the whole thing actually worked, and one problem led to the next.
That is still how I work. I would rather understand a system all the way down than paste in something I do not follow, which is why most of what I run is built on open tools I can actually fix at two in the morning.
What I do now
I provide IT consultation for several companies and organisations, and I maintain live systems that people depend on daily — including heating control running in three mosques, business websites handling real customer data, and the servers underneath all of it.

How I like to work
Plainly. I will tell you if something is not worth doing, or if what you have already got is fine. I explain things in normal words, and I would rather show you how something works than make you dependent on me for every small change.
Because I pray in the buildings I work in and live in the town I work in, the things I build have to keep working. That tends to shape how carefully they get built.
